audio record question

Hi,
I want use my sound card for audio record under Linux.
The soundcard
cat /proc/asound/cards
-->
0 [CMI8738 ]: CMI8738 - C-Media PCI CMI8738
C-Media PCI CMI8738 (model 37) at 0xe800, irq 11
works fine in playback mode.
And I can record with the card under Windows.
I connected a microphone to the card.
Under Linux I used aumix (and kmix and alsamixer) to set the volume up
for the microphone line.
However I only record silence(I used ecasound and yarec).
What could be still wrong with my configuration ?
