I installed knoppix 5.01 to the hard drive of a PC someone gave me. It

live CD, I seem to be able to access the internet no problm using
firefox or konqueror. When I boot from the hard drive, I can't seem to
get on the web, and I have booted and rebooted numerous times. I have a
cable modem by scientific atlanta, a webstar modem that runs off both a
ethernet and usb connection.

Plz provide appropriate information and, or output from the following:

# ifconfig -a
# route -n
# cat /etc/resolv.conf

I don't know what's that webstar modem is? If the same is working fine
while you boot off from the LiveCD then this might be an xDSL and, or
such router and, or bridge; hence it should also work with an installed
version Knoppix as well. But you need to configure your NIC to acccess
internet.

I had tried to install ubuntu 6.06, but the install ran extremely
slow, and it seemed to hang while formating the disk so I gave up on
that. If I can't get knoppix to access the internet, I may have to try
some other distro. Any recommendations appreciated.

If Knoppix 5.0.1-2006-06-01 LiveCD is working fine, it should also work
similarly and even faster after you install it to a hard disk partition.
