I need a new UPS. I've heard that finding one that's supported by Linux

I'd like one to which I can hook a serial port if possible. APC's
"configurator" suggests their Back-UPS RS 1500VA for me.
Does it have to hook into the serial port? Why not a USB UPS?
I use a Powerware 5110 700VA UPS that hooks into my usb.
It works fine using "nut" (Network UPS Tools) and its bcmxcp_usb driver.
There's even a GUI KDE tool called knutclient that provides a dinky display
of what your UPS is doing. It's great!
BTW... The Powerware 5110 is really cheap!
