annoying. Have patience.
2.) What do you mean by unstable? If the perl scripts keep the machine very
busy, it might run slowly on a slow machine, but not unstable.
3.) If putting a heavy load on a machine makes it unstable, there is
something very wrong with the hardware: overheating perhaps. Check into
dirty heat sinks, slow or stopped fans, etc.
