Starting with Debian - update

Since my earlier post, thanks to help from several of you, I've now
got a working X windows system. The final problems were due to me
trying to set the video resolution too high - the video card will only
support 800 x 600, and having the wrong protocol on the mouse. The old
M$ mouse I'm using needs the protocol set to just "PS/2".
In case this makes no sense: I started with an old IBM PC300 with no
O/S, downloaded bootable floppy images (BOOT, ROOT & network drivers)
and have installed the remainder, mostly automatically, via the
internet.
Now the learning starts!
Thanks again for all the help.
