Does it make sense at all to have a swap partition when I have so much
RAM?
I am intending use it for a VMWare workstation, using Ubuntu 6.0.6 as the
host OS.
Thanks!

Don't think so but INE.
I suggest check your current swap usage
$ swapon -s
$ less /proc/swaps
If you're using less than 500mb allocate a swap partition of 500mb.
Then as you need more just create as many swap files or as
big a swap file as you need. Create another swapfile of 500mb
for a total of 1gb.
man mkswap, swapon
Or of course you could forget the partition and just create a swapfile. A
bit more flexible since you can delete and reallocate the swap file
without messing with partitions.
