Is there an f*ing linux distro that will let me install without all the
extra crap? I tried SUSE and then Fedora and during the install I chose
to install NOTHING extra, I mean I unchecked pretty much everything but
VIM and a few other necessary things. Then it says it is resolving
dependencies and only gives me the option to install. After it installs
I end up with all this crap I did not want like postfix and ldap and
everything but the kitchen sink. This is so annoying, I thought linux
was supposed to be flexible and configurable and give the tech more
control. It reminds me too much like windows now. Does anyone know of a
distribution that will allow me to NOT install all the extra packages?
Thanks.
I believe the Debian install DVD will let you install a fairly minimal
system.
Thanks very much for all the useful information. Obviously I am
somewhat new to Linux, I ended up being able to install a fairly
minimul install of Fedora, but earlier I tried to run a "make" and
found I did not have the proper compiler "gcc". So I just killed the
past couple of hours trying to install that package and all the
dependencies like glibc* etc, in the end I could not get it installed
because there were more and more dependencies required to the point
where I am ready to jump of the frigin bridge. Now I have to reinstall,
I will look at some of the distros that where recommended.
