My brother is a Windows guy and does tech support. I push Linux on him

I can't answer his latest question, though. Here's what he emailed me.
BEGIN BODY OF E-MAIL:
Other thing that bothers me is the speed...
If I open a website on the same laptop in Windows using Firefox, it
opens
in 1-2 seconds.
On the Linux side, same laptop with half a gig of memory, Mobile P4
processor, and fast 54000 rpm HD, etc, it takes 4-5 seconds to open the
same webpage even when they are cached or in bookmarks.
Perhaps Linux is just not as well optimized??
I would say linux is more optimized.
Does anyone have an answer for him (and me)?
Guessing /etc/resolv.conf does not contain the same DNS values as
the windows box and/or ipv6 is not disabled.
The ipv6 could be a good idea.
On the linux box, start firefox, run about:config in the location
bar and find network.dns.disableIPv6 and toggle the false to true
and see if it's faster than before.

With 300+ linux distributions, you might want to read
