The ipv6 could be a good idea.
On the linux box, start firefox, run about:config in the location
bar and find network.dns.disableIPv6 and toggle the false to true
and see if it's faster than before.

Depending on distribution, redhat/mandrake/mandriva...,
you can disable it globaly

$ cat /etc/sysconfig/network
HOSTNAME=wb.home.invalid
NETWORKING_IPV6=no <========= add this line.
NEEDHOSTNAME=no
GATEWAYDEV=eth0
GATEWAY=192.168.2.1
NETWORKING=yes

# service network restart
