I don't know what you're talking about. With Ubuntu, I start synaptic from
the system menu, do a simple search for the software I'm looking for,
click on install and apply. The software is then installed, set up, and
ready for use. No muss, no fuss, no reboot, and usually no configuration,
since Debian derivatives assume reasonable defaults.
