tcptraceroute to a specific port is NOT the same as a ping. Others have
indicated that port 9100 was not the proper destination for the print
server, and that you haven't addressed those concerns.

Why do you keep using port 9100. That is almost certainly wrong. It is the
port on an HP printer with a network card inside the printer. It is NOT the
port of any print server.

It is..many support this standard. HP's own external Jet Direct
extrenal servers as a definite example.

His system does not work. One possibility is that he is using the wrong
port. To point out that HP's servers use HP's proprietary standard is
hardly helpful to anyone.

The OP seems determined not to do anything which might solve his problems.
Most people who tried to help him have given up. I am about to do so as
well.

Here's the result, although it is highly unlikely that the problem
is caused by a network issue, considering my other findings.
I've tried configuring the cups printers with and without the
:9100, and still nothing works.

No idea what that means. Did you try what I suggested? Did you try lpd or
ipp?

Can be something like the oddity I have here..postcript Laserjet 5,
which is fed from cups, WIN98 and MAC OS9. The Mac always leaves the
data light on..never sends 'end of job'..just 'end of page'.

For you cups works fine. For him the claim is that it does not.

Sometimes this results in the printer needing a rests..but I tweaked
CUPS to send 'end of job' before sending new data..Windows does that as
a matter of course IIRC.

His symptoms are very different.
