I want a handheld that I can do the following on:
1. SSH terminal (so it needs a keyboard)
2. Run VNC client (so it needs a stylus)
3. Not Verizon (.002c != $.002)
I'm also picking a provider here in the US if anyone has advice.
I can do 1 and 2 on a blackberry with idokorro apps, but the bberries
use those wheels instead of a stylus right?
I'm using a Sprint Treo 700p. It hot syncs with Evolution and there are
two ssh clients for it, pssh an tussh. Tussh looks prettier but pssh has a
way of entering a ctrl and an esc character so you can run Emacs. I don't
know about VNC, I've never needed it, ssh is the best way to connect to a
Linux box.
The 700p has EVDO which gives you pretty good network speeds. Sprint's
data plan is an all you can eat for $15. Their coverage isn't as good as
Verizon's but they have a roaming option (I think it's $5) that allows you
to roam at no extra charge. The also have an insurance plan that I highly
recommend, it's $5 or $6 a month and they fix or replace your phone no
matter what happens to it. I originally had a 650 that wasn't very
reliable. They replaced it a couple of times and then they gave me a free
700p when they didn't have anymore 650s. The 700p has been fine.
