Dears,
I got a very interesting issue about NIS+ and GNOME (the version is
along with FC6).
It is about automount of the DVD ROM.
When NIS+ user account logged in, the automount function of DVD ROM
doesn't work, even can't find the icon about floopy and DVD ROM in
computer.
When local user account logged in, the automount function works fine
and no problem at all.
I checked the my in NIS+ home directory, find .gconf and .gconfd is
there and no special log found in the machine.
One more thing, the accounts in NIS+ previously had logged in the
client machine with FC3 which is now updated to FC6. Which may mean
that all the previously .gconf and .gnome things need to be removed
first? Or do I miss something to configure?
I think you need to provide more detail.
I've worked with NIS+ but I don't understand what you mean
by the NIS+ account.
Note that Linux assigns UIDs below 500 to special system
functions. The userid's that you are getting from the NIS maps
should all be above 500 to avoid conflicts.
Notice: Top posting only fixed once.
Maybe I can say in this way:
The automount function of DVDROM works when I logged in with a user
account in /etc/passwd. (It isn't exist in NIS+ mapping, no result by
niscat -o);
The automount function of DVDROM doesn't work when I logged in with a
user account not in /etc/passwd. (but exist in NIS+, result returned
by niscat -o);
Hope it can make it clearer, but what you said would it be the problem
of conflicting account?
You need to supply more info.
What makes you think the DVD isn't mounted?
Is there an error in /var/log/messages?
.
