Hi!
Right now I am using Ubuntu 6.10, and I have Debian etch and winXP
installed as well.
What I wanted to do was to reinstall WinXP (getting slow again...), and
use the Occasion to change my partitioning, because when I installed my
Linux system, I didn't really know how I should do that.
Anyway, I wanted to ask how I could manage to copy some whole partitions
(preferably as is, e.g. as an image) to an extern hard drive,
repartition my disk and get the partitions back onto my hard drive again.
First question: Can I copy a whole partition, and if yes, how.
You might not need to do so if you only need to resize your partitions
aand reinstall windows.
Second question: What do I have to change in my linux systems to get
them working again (apart from grub menu)
edit your fstab
Third Question: Can I resize a partition?
Partition Magic is a great tool, but your linux partitions have to be
in ext3 as it doesn't support reiserfs + I wonder if there is a tool
that does about what PM does but which is opensource or free.
I think yast partitionner can resize ntfs partitions too.
Fourth question: My Ubuntu partition contains both the / and the /home
directories, which I now find quite inconvenient. Is there a chance to
split them now without reinstalling the whole system?
login as root, mount your new home partition somewhere else, copy your
files on it, delete your home dir on /home and edit fstab. Reboot.
Thanks in advance,
