What (free) software can one use for drawing comic strips under Linux?
I'm aware of stuff like gimp, but it doesn't seem to be up to the job
of drawing comics.
Of the webcomics I read, only 2 of them are drawn with computer
programs. And they're fairly special cases (Triangle & Robert, Order of
the Stick) that are using simpler-than-usual art to make a point and/or
create a certain look.
The other 14 webcomics I read[0] are drawn with pencil/+ink, scanned in,
then colorized (maybe) via graphics programs. The current generation of
input devices doesn't lend itself to drawing things. Hell, even a top
graphics tablet lacks the tactile feedback you get with graphite+paper.
I think there's just no way you could draw something like "Zebra Girl"
with a Wacom because of this, though ICBW and would like to be proved
W with an example reachable via URL.
Thanks for confirming my impression. On the other hand, I know that computers
are used extensively in making movies such as Star Wars and probably also
the Matrix trilogy, and movies are a lot more demanding than comics. Does
that seem to contradict the apparent unsuitability of computers for drawing
comics?
