I'm a little new to Linux (using Kubuntu). I was checking under
[Multimedia] in Kubuntu['s K menu] and I see the sound mixer KMix and
some other apps for playing sound, but nothing for recording. What do
Linux users use when they want to record a little microphone sound?
Hm. Is krec installed? Try that. You'll probably have to use kmix or
another mixer app to set the current record source to the microphone (or
line-in, or whatever) for recording to work properly. You could also
try "sox /dev/sound/dsp -t ossdsp -w -s outfile.wav" for a more
old-school approach.
I started to reply, and the phone line dropped.

Good thing someone beat you too it as your post was, shall we say, less
than helpful.
