Re: firefox on fedora

Ok, maybe I sounded a bit frustrated. Installed Fedora Core 4, had it

It seems strange that you are using a stale operating system
release and want it to retroactively contain the latest and
greatest browser. A year-old OS release is going to have a
browser release that is at least a year old. If you're dead
set on the latest and greatest browser version, then a more
updated OS release would be sensible.

Some of the adverse reaction you received is due to your
expression of frustration. What kind of reaction would you
expect if you walked into the middle of a pack of fans of a
local soccer team, badmouthed said soccer team, then asked
the fans you just offended for help? Linux newsgroups get a
lot of win-trolls, and it is often difficult to tell the
difference between a frustrated real person and a win-troll.
If you come here sounding like a win-troll, someone just
might treat you like a win-troll. I would respectfully
suggest keeping your frustration out of your postings: give
information and ask for help, don't vent.

To answer the question why I'm looking at Linux is because I would
like to expand my horizons so to speak.

This is good. One part of expanding your horizons will be
to learn how to do things with Linux. You will find that
many things are different. Especially with an experience
base in that other OS, you may find some things a little
less convenient. Maybe you need to do two operations
instead of just one to accomplish something.

Tried the yum stuff and yip it is only version 1.5.
The following is in the readme.txt

'
For information about installing, running and configuring Firefox
including a list of known issues and troubleshooting information,
refer to: http://getfirefox.com/releases/
'

This address just navigates to the home page of firefox.

Yes, and from there you can find all manner of packages to
download and install, documentation on how to install and
use it, etc. Where else would you suggest an URL in the
readme file take you?

I knew I would get the following responses: "Bugger off and go back to
Windows".
I got some good feedback from sinner, thanks man.
I don't want to repeat myself, I know this will cause some frustration
for some of you especially DanC,
but here goes, "Download, double click setup.exe, Done". What could be
easier.
How long before Linux catches up?

Plonk Dan C and forget he exists. That's what the rest of
us have done.

How long before Linux catches up with _WHAT_? If you want
a more recent release of Firefox than your distribution
provides, go to the Firefox web site, download the package
for your distribution, install it, and use it. Downloading
it will take a few mouse clicks. Installing it might
require you type a few characters into a terminal window.
What's so difficult about that? You've already spent more
effort griping than it would take to install it.

Pay you for what, to explain how to upgrade firefox, please. Yeah, I
see how this open source stuff works,
give someone a free OS, then when they want to do a simple task like
upgrade firefox, you suddenly want payment.

You're starting to sound like a win-troll again. Please
leave the attitude at the door. If you bite the hand that
would feed you, you're going to get hungry. Ask questions,
but don't vent frustration on those you are asking for help.
