Vista CANNOT ignore the bios. Vista is not installed until the bios loads
it into memory from the hard disk and pass control.
The whole idea is to make sure that your bios goes to the CD first before
going to the hard drive and loading vista. That means that you have to hit
F2 or Del or whatever your system says to go into the bios cmos program to
change the boot order so that it tries to boot from the CD first.



I made cd the first boot choice, put a Ubuntu Edgy bootable cd in the
drive, rebooted, & Uby booted & ran. I clicked on install & that
worked...sorta - I now can boot & run Uby just fine.

I tried booting Vista to show my in-laws what it looked like, & it
complained about "being broken" & wanting me to install the repair
disk. Yeah, right, like with no other info I'm just going to let
Vista muck with my install?

I've been searching around for how to repair Vista without screwing up
my Uby install, so far nothing totally helpful. Maybe I should have
repartitioned with Vista's partition tool but I didn't - the one on
Ubuntu worked just fine & if Vista can't live with that, well, that
just means I have more fodder for fud'ing MicroQuack.
