Re: dual booting (installed ubuntu then windows 2003 serv)

Windoze doesn't play well with others and always overwrites the boot sector. You could have avoided this problem by installing Windoze first.

The fix is to boot with the Ubuntu CD to restore the MBR. Unforutnately, I can't remember the steps offhand. Try googling around for the answer.

Folks,

I installed ubuntu edgy, then in the free unparted space installed
windows 2003 server. The OS was booting straight to windows, without
offering any option to boot to Linux. How can I fix this? I tried
gparted and setting the boot flag on the Linux part, but this caused
"No bootable OS" messages after power up. I deleted the windows part,
but Ubuntu data is still on /dev/hda2. I can see from mounting the
hda2 that there's reference to /dev/hda1 in grub menu.lst, and I'm not
sure how I can reassign the primary part to hda1 from hda2. How can I
get back to a dual booting OS after installing non-linux oses?

Thanks,
