1) boot any Live CD
2) grub
3) grub> find /boot/grub/stage1 if you don't recall the partition
4) grub> root (hdn,m) n and m from above step probably (hd0,1) from
what you've told us
5) grub> setup (hd0)
6) grub> quit
7) reboot

There was no need to delete the MS partition, you may want to add that
back in first. Generally, it is better to install MS then Linux - for this
very reason.
