Newbie to Linux questions on what Linux to use

I have acquired a PC to install Linux on.

Older machine, Pentium II with about 250 MB RAM

What Linux system can I use on it?

Is there a smaller, minimalist version just in case my machine is not
up to spec?

Thanks

Matt
