ACL... where do I find it?

I'm toying with the idea of giving Access Control Lists (ACLs) a shot,
but wonder where I can find the neccessery patches.
I'd like to compile it from scratch, so AFAIK I'll need a patch for
the kernel (or has support been added to the main branch?),
possibly a patch to the filesystem and filesystem tools, and the
package with the actual ACL-tools itself...
It's especially the ACL-tools I'm looking for, so I was hoping someone
here could point me in the right direction...
