Is sata_sil Production Ready?

I've been reading a lot of usenet postings about problems with the
Silicon Image 3114 chipset. I'm in a situation where I'd like to
deploy a raid5 array on a production server that only has 2 SATA ports
on the motherboard. I have the option of using the 2 onboard and
adding a 2-port controller for the third drive in the array, or just
bypassing the onboard controller and using a 4-port controller on the
PCI bus.
Because this particular hardware only has a 32-bit PCI riser (for a 2U
case), my choices for controllers are somewhat limited. Most of the 2
and 4 32-bit PCI cards employ this Silicon Image 3112/3114 chipset,
which brings me back to the original question.
Am I crazy to even consider this chipset in a production server? One
that will get heavy I/O in its raid array? Or, are the old messages
I've dug up on usenet now obsolete? Is the "CONFIG_BROKEN" flag
relevant if I'm going to be installing from RPM's? I'll be using
software raid, of course. My distro of choice is RHEL 4, Update 5.
Any opinions would be welcome. Thanks in advance.
