Re: scroll-lock kernelmessages while booting ?

Frequently I run into the problem that after installing a new kernel, a new
machine, new hardware the kernel stops booting with "kernel panic".

Before that loads of the kernel-messages float over the screen and sometimes it
would be so important to actually read some of these messages to know if your
new harddrive on the new sata-controller now is seen as hda, hde, sda or sde :)

When the boot works out fine, then I can look all the messages with dmesg but if
the kernel panics before all messages are lost and no eye is fast enough to read
them all when they fly over the screen.

So I need a scroll-lock, a kind of less-tool for the kernelmessages while
booting. The kernel should print its messages to the screen : line by line. And
if one screen is full I am supposed to press a key to start a new page. Like
"less" does. Is there a hidden kernel-option to do that? or some other trick?

I searched the internet but I guess I didnt use the proper search-words, cause
it didnt reveal anything useful.

Do Control-S and Control-Q work in a VC while booting?
