Re: Realplayer crashes on Red hat linux randomly

Can't be; I am running the same version of Linux you are.

Note that this is not the only stream for which this crashes. (It
crashes for other .rm files also)
also when I try to rerun the same stream it crashes at a different
place.
I do not know: I got all the way through that stream you posted; took around
an hour, IIRC.

I do not even know how to diagnose the cause of this problem. Can
someone help me
find the cause of this? No log file or core file is produced :-(
Thanks very much
Nothing in /var/log/messages?
Unfortunately I don't have root permission needed to view this file.
Is there a way to pipe these messages to a different file where I can
have access?

If you are on a *86 machine, I suggest running memtest86 overnight or longer
to see if you are having memory problems.

I don't have memtest86 installed on my machine.

You can get it from:

http://www.memtest86.com/

It is a stand-alone program; does not even matter what OS you run, since it
does not need to be installed.

The fact that you get errors at random times with the same software I use,
when I use the same data stream you do, and I do not get errors, implies to
me that you are more likely having hardware problems than software problems.

here is what my /proc/
meminfo file says:
total: used: free: shared: buffers: cached:
Mem: 2104262656 954970112 1149292544 0 33738752 444276736
Swap: 1077501952 419188736 658313216

On the one hand, you are using a lot of swap space.
On the other, you are using less than half of your real memory space.
Did you just reboot the machine? Normally, a running Linux system uses up
almost all the available memory.

Should I check for any missing library on my path?

No. If there were a missing library, the program would not run at all.
