Any help will be really appreciated. Thank you in advance!
For starters, try disabling ipv6:

Johnny, Thanks for your help.
I disabled ipv6 per your instructions, and the issue appears to be
unchanged.

Since my first post I have made some steps which might help diagnose
the problem:
I have installed vmware-server and am running WindowsXP inside of it,
which does not exhibit the same problem.

are you running firefox on windows, or IE?

A website will be
inaccessible from the Kubuntu host environment, and accessible from
WindowsXP at the same time.
Also, on some sites, it seems that if I keep hitting refresh, a little
more of the page loads each time (probably around 1kb per refresh.
Don't ask how long I fooled with this). Of course I'm not sure what
this means, but it may be helpful.

I know of several sites that (on my Windoze 98 setup) do the same ..in Firefox.

Their HTML and javascript causes massive indigestion in Firefox.

Most sites that are written by non techie types are designed to work with IE only - they never validate with Firefox/opera etc etc.

I suggest upgrading at least to the latest latest Firefox you can find, and checking that out before hacking into your networking layers.

The Firefox error console is a useful tool as well.

I tried Vmware.com with my windoze Firefox, and it runs cleanly enough..

Thank you again. If you have any further suggestions I would greatly
appreciate them!
