Don't
ask how long I fooled with this). Of course I'm not sure what this
means, but it may be helpful.

Have you checked your MTU settings to see if they're optimized? Since
you're having slow connection/transfer speeds, can I assume that you're
on dialup? Or are you the impatient type, even on broadband?

Shadow_7, I hope you are on to something with this. I do own an XBox
360, and did have to change the MTU setting on my router in order for
it to work online. It is now set to 1460 bytes. And no, I am not on
dialup. I am on an ADSL connection, although not a particularly
speedy one. The issue isn't really about impatience though, since
pages either will load very quickly, or not at all-ever. Also, none
of the other computers in the house have this issue, however they are
either Windows or Mac.

I do not understand MTU, honestly, but if that is part of the issue,
particularly since I had to change the setting on my router, what
would you recommend I try, being on an ADSL connection (about 1MBps
downstream)? Thank you in advance!

I'm having the exact same problems with Firefox will away working and
accessing the small Hotel I'm staying ins broadband. Its a 2MB connection
and I've been staying there for about 6 months now and have been using
Ubuntu for the last 4 months. Its only been in the last month that I've
noticed the problems with Firefox and put it down to the final Ubuntu 7.04
release, but I then dual booted to WinXp & Firefox and that was having the
same problems loading pages, so just thought it was the slow hotel
connection, maybe too many users on it?.

Shadow_7 mentioned XBox 360 and alarm bells started to ring, cos exactly 1
month ago the hotel bought one.

I'll ask the owner tonight if he had to change any settings on the router
and get back to you if he did.
