SSH, it's secure and easy to set up. I get over 4Mb/s transfer rate here.
I set up SAMBA on the LInux machine and the MAC (running the very
latest OSX) can copy files to the SAMBA share at lightning speeds.
When I try and copy files from the LInux machine to the Mac they take
an eternity.
You sound a bit confused, or you're trying to confuse us. If you're
using your Mac to copy files from a Samba share on your Linux PC, then
your Mac is using Samba too, maybe smbclient or something similar.
Yes I am using the Mac smb protocol.
Finder->go->connect to server-> smb://192.168.y.z -> connect
.
