apt-get install rcconf

Hmmm. I'm not familiar with that tool. I normally manually edit my
services/daemons that run at boot. Generally by rm-ing the entries in /
etc/rc?.d/.

As far as rpc.statd, I believe that it gets started by portmap. Which is
odd since it doesn't get stopped when you stop portmap.

on my system i disabled it by disabling /ect/rc5.d/Sxxnfs-common

rcconf renamed it to /etc/rc5.d/K00nfs-common

i rebooted and rpc.statd was no longer a running process
