What is the best way to turn off screen blanking? Putting a little

The distro is Debian Etch.
It depends. Is the "blanking" caused by the power saving feature or by
the screensaver or something else? First guess: screensaver. Launch the
screensaver config utility, and turn it off.
If it's power saving, find the power saving configuration utility, and
turn off screen/monitor power down.
I'd blame acpi. Add acpi=no or noacpi to kopt in /boot/menu.list, and
to the "kernel" line(s). Of course, this may have other side-effects ...
