Just how good is badblocks? I used to run it on Western Digital hard drives
and they passed. When one of those drives finally quit, it was so bad that I
could not even run badblocks because I could not keep the computer up long
enough. Fair enough.

OTOH, I have never gotten badblocks to give a clean bill of health to a
Maxtor Diamond Plus 9 80 megabyte hard drive, though some of those have been
running three years or more 24/7 with no complaints from SMART.
