Joerg Redmann staggered into the Black Sun and said:
Each time I boot my machine up, I have to issue "route add default
eth0" in order to be able to [do anything]. There is no router
involved, the box's NIC is directly connected to a cable modem.
Cablemodem, or DSL modem? The comments and "ppp" keyword in your file
say it's the latter.
my /etc/network/interfaces:[snip lo config]
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet ppp
pre-up /sbin/ifconfig eth0 up # line maintained by pppoeconf
provider dsl-provider
Do you see any mistake?
Look at /etc/ppp/peers/dsl-provider . There should probably be a
"defaultroute" line in there that isn't commented out, unless your
machine's routing situation is more complex than you've indicated here.
