can you get access to /var/log/dmesg? if so I would tail -n 99 /var/
log/dmesg to see the last 99 lines of the log. If you find something
post it.


I have deleted the dmesg file (to see only the things of the following boot) and rebooted, but the dmesg staid empty. So I think that the particular daemon/module/whatever isn't loaded at the time the system hangs up.

Is it possible that the kernel/initrd is damaged or a kernel module doesn't exist or is damaged? No idea how this could have happened, but it is worth thinking.

Maybe it is worth saying: On my laptop, the line the comes after the "Running /scripts/init-bottom... Done." is "Mount failed on selinuxfs: No such device".
