I have recently deleted GRUB accidentally. After having reinstalled it,
the kernel hangs up while booting. The last boot messages I can see are:
Begin: Mounting root file system... ...
Begin: Running /scripts/local-top ...
Done.
Begin: Running /scripts/local-premount ...
kinit: name_to_dev_t(/dev/sda5) = sda5(8,5)
kinit: trying to resume from /dev/sda5
Attempting manual resume
kinit: no resume image, doing normal boot...
Done.
kjournald starting. Commit interval 5 seconds
EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode.
Begin: Running /scripts/local-bottom ...
Done.
Done.
Begin: running /scripts/init-bottom...
Done.

post it.
boot) and rebooted, but the dmesg staid empty. So I think that the
particular daemon/module/whatever isn't loaded at the time the system
hangs up.
Is it possible that the kernel/initrd is damaged or a kernel module
doesn't exist or is damaged? No idea how this could have happened, but
it is worth thinking.
Maybe it is worth saying: On my laptop, the line the comes after the
"Running /scripts/init-bottom... Done." is "Mount failed on selinuxfs:
No such device".

That's pretty helpful, check /etc/fstab and look for selinuxfs. Also
try /proc/mounts
I had a similar thing happen to me once, it couldn't mount because the
volume label was wrong, and the old entry in fstab was fouling
everything up.
Just to make clear: My laptop works fine, it is only for comparison.
I haven't found a selinuxfs on my laptop, but I think that doesn't matter.
On my desktop computer (that is the one not working), the computer hangs up before this message appears.
The /etc/fstab of my desktop computer doesn't contain a selinuxfs.
