wvdial problems

I've used wvdial for many years to initiate a dialup connection without any
problems.
Recently, I've subscribed to a new ISP where the local dialup number works
fine with an M$ dialup connection, but fails using wvdial:
# wvdial starband
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.41
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
ATZ
OK
--> Sending: AT S11=50
AT S11=50
OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Sending: ATDT xxx-xxxx
--> Waiting for carrier.
ATDT xxx-xxxx
CONNECT 26400/ARQ/V34/LAPM/V42BIS
--> Carrier detected. Waiting for prompt.
Returning not ok!!
--> Disconnecting at Tue Aug 14 19:42:23 2007
Is there any way to solve this problem please? The username and password in
/etc/wvdial.conf are correct:
[Dialer Defaults]
Modem = /dev/ttyS1
Baud = 57600
Init = ATZ
Init2 = AT S11=50
[Dialer starband]
Phone = xxx-xxxx
Username = myID@xxxxxxxxxxxx
Password = myPassword
The man page states:
"Login Prompt - If your ISP has an unusual login procedure that wvdial is
unable to figure out, you can use this option to specify a login
prompt. When this prompt is received from your ISP, wvdial will send the
Login string."
but I can't see any login prompt or procedure as echoed. The use of "Stupid
Mode" has no effect on the failure to authenticate the connection.
