I had accidentally corrupted my /lib/libcrypto.so.6 file on my Fedora

to life again?
I really need the data that is on the disk.
It's unlikely that you cannot boot because of a bad libcrypto. That library isn't really needed until you load something that requires SSL, and that doesn't happen until very late in the boot process, when you attempt to start something like Apache, or your mail server, or perhaps even ssh. By that time you're fairly well into your boot process and you should've had a lot of things happen already.
Your message suggests that your boot process doesn't even start. That ain't libcrypto, that's for sure.
Anyway, whatever your problem is, what you need to do is get the Fedora 5 install CD or DVD. Actually even the current Fedora 8 install DVD will work. Boot it and choose the rescue mode. The installer should be able to find your boot partition, mount them, and throw you into a shell. Then, it's up to you to figure out what REALLY's broken, and how to fix it.
