With those specs, just about any Linux distro will do as long as you stay
away from KDE or GNOME as your GUI environments. XFCE is a good,
lightweight GUI with lots of features, and it's 100% compatible with a
KDE and GNOME apps; or you could just go with a window manager like
Fluxbox or IceWM.

The Ubuntu and SUSEme latest versions are very heavy for a computer like
this.
I'm planning to use this computer only for internet surfing OpenOffice.

OO might be too resource hungry; try Abiword for a word processor.

FWIW, I'm running PCLinuxOS 2007 on a Dell Insprion 5000e (500MHz CPU,
256MB RAM and 12GB hard drive) with KDE, the default GUI, and it runs
just fine. If you can upgrade the RAM on your C600 to 256MB, PCLinuxOS
would work just fine with no compromises.
