'Starting system log daemon: syslogd' hangs for 5 minutes during boot!!

I am working on Montavista 2.6.18 on a MIPS R4K board. When I turned
on CONFIG_HIGH_RES_TIMER, the board boots but it hangs for about 5
minutes at 'Starting system log daemon: syslogd'. After 5 minutes, it
returns with a fail (1: ) message and then continue with the boot. I
can then log in and everything looks OK.

Has anyone seen this before? This delay does not happen when I turn
off CONFIG_HIGH_RES_TIMER.

Thanks
