I am running Fedora 6
That's a couple of versions out of date. Fedora is in permanent beta,
you know, and there are other distros that are a bit easier to keep up
to date.
$ pytick[snip]
File "/usr/lib/python2.4/urllib.py", line 345, in http_error_default
raise IOError, ('http error', errcode, errmsg, headers)
IOError: ('http error', 301, 'Moved Permanently',
This is the problem. Wherever it's getting its data from has moved
permanently, so the app is barfing. What looks like pytick's homepage
says the last update happened in 2005, so this is not that surprising.
This means you can either fix pytick, or find another stock ticker app
that has been maintained more recently. The latter will probably be
easier to do. I don't know what you need... maybe smtm might work for
you? Oh well, HTH,

switched to naming them. I still miss Bob. --skritch on a.f.c (1998)
