Idiot's guide to Compiz-fusion

Is there such a thing? I have started playing with Compiz-fusion
and I seem to be able to get just a few of the uber-cool effects
promised: I can get the wiggly windows and the workspace cube, but that's
just about. For example, how does one get glxgears inside the cube? This
is of course pretty useless, but I would like to see it :-) I seem to
have just about all plugins and plugins-extra, but I don't know how to
get them to work.

Most humiliatingly, the compiz-fusion site does not seem to
provide any info on the subject, probably because they think it trivial.
Like I said, an Idiot's Guide to Compiz-fusion would be most welcome.
