Start the kernel compilation and run it long enough to generate the
custom header files:
# make bzImage
You may have to relink /lib/modules/<version>/build to /usr/src/linux.
Then you can run the installer.
No idea why you'd need to make a new kernel.
Debian Lenny, newly installed yesterday. NVidia module compilation barfs
with only linux-headers-2.6.22-3 & linux-headers-2.6.22-3-k7 packages
installed.
Beside, it is not required to build a new kernel, only to create the
necessary header files.
I just installed 169.09 a few minutes ago.
Download the .run.
Exit from X, change to runlevel 3 if you have to.
That is not at all necessary. Merely execute `/etc/rc2.d/S30gdm stop`
after having logged in as root on VT2.
As root, cd to where the .run file is and type:
sh ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.09-pkg1.run
Which will fail if /usr/src/linux/include/linux/version.h is not present.
And if you append a -a then you don't have to agree to their license a
second time.
