msttcorefonts on Fedora 8

Hi.

We are running Fedora 8 on Intel 686 boxes.

We have used the instructions at
<http://corefonts.sourceforge.net>
to build the msttcorefonts RPM. However, it appears that the font
server isn't finding these fonts.

In more detail:

The directory /usr/share/fonts/msttcorefonts is populated with fonts:
$ ls /usr/share/fonts/msttcorefonts
andalemo.ttf comic.ttf ...
arial.ttf comicbd.ttf ...
arialbd.ttf cour.ttf ...
arialbi.ttf courbd.ttf ...
ariali.ttf courbi.ttf ...
ariblk.ttf couri.ttf ...

chkfontpath seems to know about this directory:
$ /usr/sbin/chkfontpath -l
Current directories in font path:
1: catalogue:/etc/X11/fontpath.d
2: /usr/share/fonts/msttcorefonts

I have both restarted and reloaded xfs, which does seem to be running:
$ /sbin/service xfs status
xfs (pid 12505) is running...

However, xlsfonts isn't finding the fonts:
$ xlsfonts|grep microsoft
$ xlsfonts|grep monotype
IOW, no fonts match these patterns.

So, xlsfonts doesn't seem to find the fonts this RPM has created, even
though the font directory is in the font path and there is a valid
fonts.dir file in the directory.

What have I neglected to do here?

Thanks.
