Yes--I've heard USB sticks may go wobbly when written too often. But IMO
for typical backups (once or twice daily) they're adequate (YMMV).
I agree that orginal/copy verification (of some sort) is vital.
As for the "readonly" Doze "partitions" I mentioned: I tried to do fdisk
and mke2fs in ways to "reclaim" them, but IME they seem to remain. Since
they're not big relative to multi-GB sticks, it's not critical to me.
(I don't know if the Doze stuff remained useful--I don't do Doze at all)
