If you mean by "go through" using Verizon's MTA as a smart host
(sendmail) or relayhost (postfix) and your /var/log/maillog shows that
Verizon has accepted your message traffic then the problem lies with
Verizon.

No, I do not send much through my sendmail into Verizon's MTA, though I
do that with about 1 e-mail a week. I usually just use Thunderbird
through Verizon's MTA. That does not appear in my sendmail logs, of
course.

Best way to find out then where the error lies is to configure your MTA
to relay through Verizon's and point your MUA at your own MTA. Then you
have a record of what happened.
