Penguin staggered into the Black Sun and said:
I would like to use a linux installation DVD-ROM (Fedora 5) to boot my
machine and mount the NTFS [filesystems] on my disk.
The Fedora 5 CD-R is mostly intended to install Fedora 5 (which is 4
revisions behind the times now). Using it for any other purpose is a
bad idea. If you want a much better generic rescue system/LiveCD, take
a look at http://www.sysresccd.org/ . Recent versions of this distro
have ntfs-3g, which is fairly nice.
I tried to boot it in "linux rescue" mode and access to the command
line. but I am not able to mount the NTFS [partitions]. It seems like
the ntfs modules [are] not loaded yet. Then, I downloaded [the]
ntfs-kernel- modules.rpm file and [saved] it [to] a usb drive.
Wrong approach. See first paragraph.
Any hints?
