I just installed Fedora 9 on an HP with the NVidia integrated video

deactivate and then activate it, it works fine.
Is there something in the boot process that I am missing?
It sounds like either the DHCP client is missing from the startup
scripts, or the configuration data after using the deactivation and
reactivation tools are different.
Try examining the IP addresses, and doing some pinging of the local and
remote interfaces following both initial boot and reactivation.
Post the configuration information for both instances here.

Mark.
