Bought a slackware 12.1 dvd off eBay recently...
The URIs you gave now say 'cancelled' so I guess he has
withdrawn the dvds.
That's funny -- I'm still seeing the page. The auction
is eBay item# 330244065442, which you can enter as a search
term. What do you see that way???
Is this some known problem with the distributed image,
or did the seller somehow mangle the files burning the dvd?
(I emailed him, but he replied "What do you want me to do?",
which sounds like he's just hoping I'll go away -- since it's
*obvious* he should randomly check another dvd, and withdraw
the remaining 29 from sale if they're all corrupt.)
There is no problem with the dvd image from slackware itself as I and
many others are running slackware 12.1 after downloading it.
Good to hear. Though I suppose one particular download site
might have a bad image, and maybe Brad (the eBay dvd seller)
happened to use that one.
If you lived in Australia I could send you a copy free, or you could
consider buying an 'official' copy from the slackware store or indeed do
a big download yourself.
I agree it's a good idea to support slackware development.
But their $59.95 for a dvd is a bit steep. However, I suppose
it's well worth the price. Maybe the fair thing to do
is purchase every second or third update from them, and
take the others for free (or for a few dollars like I tried).
Good luck with geting your money back from ebay,
It was just $1.00 (USD) + $4.99 s/h, so I'm not even bothering
to try. Besides, I just separately downloaded the 17MB corrupt
modules file, and ran installpkg against it. Seems to be booting
fine. (Later on, I'll try another full install onto a spare
partition, and take better notes to identify the other two
corrupt files.)
Thanks, Andrew,
