Hi,
We are using Red Hat v9 and we are having a problem with both USB and
getting Samba to work and Video card compatability.
I am thinking of rebuilding the machine and starting from Scratch,
which flavour of Linux would you recommend?
Thanks
I am using Ubuntu 8.4 and found it dealt with some of my hardware
more easily than my older Fedora Core 6 - but it may just be that
all of the newer versions do better.
One thing I found was that Samba seems to work perfectly when
talking to my XP laptop and vice versa, but I have problems with
my wife's Vista computer. I don't think the problem is in Samba
because my laptop has the same problems talking to Vista. I don't
know if Vista in general has changes that screw up connections with
older systems, or if there's something wrong with my particular
Vista system (more likely I suppose).
As far as video card compatibility, I've had very good luck with
NVidia cards. The open source drivers worked fine for 2D
graphics and, by installing the closed source driver from NVidia,
I could get support for the 3D features of the card.
Alan
