Restore from backup?

P.S.: Also get a UPS on that machine so it will not happen again.

Not very helpful actually.

This is all locking the stable door..

True, but with a current backup and a UPS, it will be easier to recover
from, and will be less likely to happen. Prevention ...
Wondering if I could grab files from a working and similar setup..
OK..I managed to get things up and running: I had a REALLY old backup of
the initial installation.

I copied the offending files from that into the mysql database, and achieved connection, but had to recreate all the users..which wasn't too
hard since I had php scripts telling me what the names and passwords
were.

Basically the databsase must have been actually starting up when the power tripped.

So it mashed the important tables that control its operation.

The subsequent databases attached to it all seem OK. They would not have
been being accessed when it crashed.

Hope this helps someone else in similar predicament one day.

As do I. But none of it will matter because people will not do backups and
will not get UPSs, even when it happens so regularly.

The time taken to back up regularly exceeds the time I took to actually fix the pronblem, Jean.

Cost benefit analysis is my Occams razor in many cases.
