Only for very strange values of "precursor". mc used to have a GNOME
interface, and that was the file manager for GNOME before there was
nautilus. mc no longer has that interface -- it's just a text-mode
file manager.

You are basically running a desktop environment within a desktop
environment and they aren't compatible.

Madness, eh?
